Ustadh is an honorary name given to an Islamic scholar or a teacher. My first encounter with an Ustadh was in madrasa (madi). Let’s just say their curriculum didn’t cover patience😅

A poster created during Wave 3 of the pandemic in Kenya depicting the government’s negligence in welcoming Ukraine nationals into the country for the purpose of boosting tourism. All the while the country was undergoing a total lockdown.

I came up with a raunchy twist on an ad for popular Kenyan brand Eveready that uses the tagline ‘Paka Power’.
MPENZI MTAA MAJI
'Mpenzi Mtazamaji' is a phrase that Kenyan swahili news anchors use as a term of endearment for their viewers. The viewers tend to focus on the appearance of the anchors instead of the news.
MAZIWA YA NYAYO
In the early 90s the late President Daniel Arap Moi run an initiative called Maziwa ya Nyayo where primary school students received free packets of milk. Nyayo House (pictured) served as torture Chambers for political activists during his tenure.
APPLE OF MAYAI
A playful twist on the phrase Apple of My Eye. Mayai is swahili for eggs.
KUKU PONO
'Kuku Pono' is swahili sheng for rotisserie chicken available at small food outlets in the Nairobi CBD
KICHWA MAJI
The failing state of the Kenya Police Department peddled with corruption and mismanagement of funds.
DUSH NYAU
A poster based on a popular phrase 'Dush Nyau' from childhood used during a police and robbers game.
SMILE KIDOGO
Men use the derogatory phrase 'Smile Kidogo' to hound women in Nairobi streets.
CHIPS KIDOLE SAMBUSA
Chips, kidole, sambusa is a popular phrase from Kenyan childhood in the 90s. Most of us don't know what it means, but it's provocative.
SASA FEET
A playful take on a popular swahili greeting; Sasa? Fit! (Sasa, feet).

Captures the spirit of your inner child, playful and unafraid.

This poster shows the implied effects of the Corona virus vaccine.
I-SCREAM
This poster captures the nostalgic nature of Sno-cream, the oldest ice cream parlour in Kenya.
ELASTOPLAST
A mock ad for Elastoplast featuring Nelly's lyrics in hit song Dilemma. Nelly, one of the most iconic music artists always used to wear an elastoplast above his left cheek.
TOYOTAA
A witty copy trying to explain how dominant and reliable the Toyota brand has been to Kenyans.

This poster depicts the Kenyan culture of slaughtering goats at big celebrations.
DUF MPARARO
'Duf Mpararo' is swahili sheng for swimming naked in a river; a common practice among young boys in rural areas.

An ode to football legend Diego Maradona.

Japan is a cheeky dig at the relationship we Africans have with countries from the East.

'Mpango wa kando' refers to a side chick. In the collage the lady is sitted on the side of the bar soap.
PEPETA
'Pepeta' is a swahili sheng word for dribbling a ball. A pair of Adidas is always perfect to Pepeta.
JUST DO IT
A Kenyan Nike ad inspired by the Maasai tribe. The Maasai wander in search of new pasture every couple of months. Their fearlessness is what we should aspire to. Just Do It.
NDUTHI
'Nduthi' is a swahili sheng word for a motorbike. A Nduthi is a form of transport commonly used by most of Nairobi's population. This piece is inspired by Malick Sidibe.
PANDE-MIC
Pande Mic is a play on the word Pandemic. 'Pande' is swahili for trek. A mic is pictured and two travelers navigating life in a pandemic.
